RideTheRim Waipi‘o Valley TOUR

Light refreshments and 'talk story' from our experienced, knowledgeable and fun guides provided twice daily, morning and afternoon. Be part of the F.U.N., RideTheRim of Waipi'o on one of our brand new ATVs. Children 5 - 15, the elderly or folks not wishing to ride an ATV (even at the last minute, space available) enjoy our open air buggy - a Polaris Ranger -  driven by the tour guide. The Ranger brings up the rear on our tours.

We meet at Waipi'o Valley Artworks - the best little art gallery on the island - in beautiful downtown Kukuihaele. Allow some time and be sure to browse before or after your tour for that special something - they've got it all.

There are 2 ATV tours per day. Check-in at the Waipi’o Valley Artworks in Kukuihaele near Waipi’o Valley, northwest of Honokaa

Tour Duration: 3+ hours

Equipment & Requirements:

Our ATVs are Honda Rancher 400s and 420s, all automatic, 4 wheel drive and clutch-less. Easy to drive.
All manufacturer’s recommendations and insurance requirements are strictly observed. YES you will need to wear a helmet.

No experience necessary. A comprehensive safety orientation and demonstration drive is mandatory. If, in our guide’s opinion, you do not appear to reliably control the machine during the orientation, we will decline your participation and refund your money. Likewise, if you feel that you are not comfortable on the machines, you may decline participation and receive a refund. You may also choose to ride the buggy, space available, with no refund of price difference.

Safety gear mandatory and provided. Yes, helmets are absolutely mandatory - no exceptions. We highly recommend long pants and closed-toe shoes, but do not police your attire. You do not need bug spray at all, but sunscreen may be advisable. A note about windward side weather: it simply cannot be predicted and there is nothing like it on the mainland anywhere. You will pass through three distinct climate zones on your way to us from the Kona side. Most of our days are cool and comfortable and most of our rain is one cloud at a time coming off the ocean as a condensate mist. Those clouds occasionally have real rain and large droplets but they are nearly always fleeting. We travel in both of those rains described and many locals wait to ride on the rainy days. We do not travel in lightning storms (rare), rain storms or high winds. We reserve the right to cancel when weather is, in our opinion, inclement. This includes high winds. We provide rain ponchos. You will receive a refund if we cancel due to weather. Waipio Valley is mystical and 'mistical' and is occasionally socked in; this is beyond our control.

What to Bring with You:

Adventure Clothing Suggested. We highly recommend long pants and closed-toe shoes, but do not police your attire. You do not need bug spray at all, but sunscreen may be advisable. You may bring a light jacket, but remember it is an adventure tour and anything you wear will get dirty; water socks or reef shoes are useful on the slippery rocks. Wear your bathing suit under your clothes. We do have a lua up top, but it is rather primitive. Cargo nets store your gear on the machines.

Swimming - We swim under a secluded waterfall at the top and back of the valley before the same water goes over the pali (cliff) as Hi'ilawe Falls; the water is about 72 degrees year-round. Our changing facilities are quite primitive, so wear your swimsuits under your clothing and bring a towel. Water shoes, water socks, reef walkers (however you might call them) are suggested as the smooth river rocks are slippery The waterfall pool is usually only chest deep in most spots. As this area is a watershed, there are times when the water is high and we reserve the right to cancel swimming when the conditions are clearly hazardous.

Cancellation & Refunds

As our guides must travel large distances to come to work, we have a strict 24 hr cancellation policy. Your credit card is required to hold  the reservation. Online bookings and vendor bookings are charged at the point of sale. Direct bookings by phone are charged the DAY BEFORE your tour within the 24 hr time frame prior to your tour. At that point in time, your money is no longer refundable. For cancellations and no-shows within the 24hr cut-off, you may, AT THAT POINT, BUT NOT THEREAFTER, re-schedule your tour with us on a space available basis. If no space is available for you or available times are not convenient to you - as determined solely by you - during the time of your remaining vacation, your money is forfeited. We do not accept checks.

Please be sure to leave your cell phone number on the booking form so that we can reach you, if need be. Your home land line does us no good.

You may call to make a reservation - 808-775-1450 or 877-775-1450 toll free.
